In a winner bracket matchup between the USAO Drovers (47-11) battled the St. Thomas University Bobcats (47-13). The Bobcats would come out on top 6-5, snapping the Drovers 26 game win-streak. In the Bottom of the 4th innings the lights at Harris Field shut off causing a delay. After that Delay the Drovers scored 3 unanswered runs but it wouldn’t be enough to pull off the comeback.
The Drovers offense put together a 10 hit performance, led by Coleton Horner who was 3-4 with a single, double and a home run (4). Miguel Lorenzo went 3-5 with a single and 2 doubles. Cristian Laboy went 1-4 with a home run (11). P.J. Garcia went 1-4 with a single. Luis Pelayo went 1-5 with a double and Alex Sanchez went 1-4 with a single for USAO.
USAO started Matt Merrill who would throw 2.1 innings and allow 4 runs on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts for the Drovers. In relief the Drovers first called Brock Henderson who threw 1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits. Ricardo Velez was the spotlight of the night for the Drovers as he would fire 4.2 scoreless innings and allow just 1 hit. Velez finished his night with 6 strikeouts and allowed just 2 walks for USAO.
USAO will look to stay alive in the postseason as they face the defending champions Southeastern University at 5 PM CT on Tuesday, May 28 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.
