After two days of rain cancellations the Sooner Athletic Conference is finally under way. The USAO Drovers (41-10, 24-3 SAC) beat the SAGU Lions (22-29, 8-19 SAC) 16-6 in seven innings. In this game Head Coach Mike Ross hit another milestone as he hit the 400 win mark.
The offense for the Drovers put together a solid 20 hit game as they were led by Ian Laureano. He went 4-4 with 3 singles and connected for a solo home run (3). Alex Sanchez went 4-5 with 4 singles on the afternoon for USAO. Miguel Lorenzo went 3-5 with 2 singles and a double. P.J. Garcia went 2-6 with a single and a grand slam (5). Garcia finished his day with 5 RBI’s for the Drovers. Coleton Horner went 3-4 with 3 singles. Elvin Alamo went 2-4 with 2 singles. Cristian Laboy went 2-4 with 2 singles and 3 RBI’s in the game.
In the tournament opener the Drovers sent Jean Muntaner to the mound where he would fire 4.2 innings and allow 6 runs on 10 hits. Muntaner finishes his day with 5 strikeouts and allowed just 1 walk. With the win he improves to 12-1 on the season for USAO. In relief the Drover gave the ball to Miles Robertson as he would throw 2.1 innings and allow 0 runs on 2 hits. Robertson would pick up 3 strikeouts on the afternoon.
