Baseball: Drovers Overpower Rams In Weekend Series

The 8th ranked USAO Drovers (37-10, 21-3 SAC) Swept the 14th ranked Texas Wesleyan Rams (37-12, 16-7 SAC) in a weekend series down in Fort Worth, Texas. On the weekend the Drovers put up 22 runs and allowed just 4. The Drovers with the series sweep extend their win streak to 16 games in a row.

Game 1: Muntaner Deals As Drovers Take Series Opener

The USAO Drovers defeated the Texas Wesleyan Rams 6-2 in-game 1 of this series.

The Drovers started off this series with the 6′-0″ left-handed pitcher Jean Muntaner. He was in control the whole game for the Drovers as he would throw his 2nd complete game of the season. During his 9 innings of work Muntaner would allow 2 runs on 6 hits and 11 strikeouts. With this win Muntaner improves to 10-1 on the season.

The offense for the Drovers put together 7 hits on the afternoon led by Cristian Laboy who went 2-3 with a single and a home run (7). Luis Pelayo went 2-2 with a single and a double. P.J. Garcia went 1-4 with a single. Alex Sanchez went 1-3 with a single for USAO. Elvin Alamo went 1-5 with a double.

Game 2: Drovers Claim Series Victory

In the second game of the series the Drovers topped the Rams 6-1.

The Drovers sent the Righty Matt Merrill to the mound and he would also shine. Merrill threw 7 innings for the Drovers, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 11 strikeouts on the afternoon. Merrill would allow only 1 extra base hit on the day and just 3 walks to the Rams. With the win he improves to 9-1 on the season.

The offense for the Drovers collected 9 hits in this contest led by Alex Sanchez who went 2-4 with a single and a double. Miguel Lorenzo went 2-4 with 2 singles and 1 RBI. Luis Pelayo went 2-4 with 2 singles. Elvin Alamo went 1-4 with a single. Ian Laureano went 1-3 with a single. Cristian Laboy went 1-3 with a single and 2 RBI’s.

Game 3: USAO Finishes Series Sweep Over Rams

In the series finale the Drovers captured the win over the Rams 10-1.

The Drovers offense put together a 9 hit game led by Cristian Laboy who went 2-4 with a single, a double and 2 RBI’s for the Drovers. Miguel Lorenzo went 2-5 with 2 singles and finished with 3 RBI’s. P.J. Garcia would go 1-5 with a single. Luis Pelayo went 1-4 with a single. Brock Henderson went 1-4 with a single. Coleton Horner went 1-2 with a double. Elvin Alamo went 1-3 with a single and a RBI.

In the final game of the series the Drovers started Colton Williams who would throw 6 innings for the Drovers allowing 0 runs and just 2 hits on the afternoon. With the win, Williams moves to 12-0 on the season, which ranks him first in the NAIA for wins. In relief the Drovers called on Miles Robertson who pitched 1 inning allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 1 strike out for USAO.
