Baseball: Drovers Capture Series Sweep Over Pioneers

The 9th ranked USAO Drovers (32-10, 18-3 SAC) swept the double-header over the Wayland Baptist Pioneers. In game 1 the Drovers beat the Pioneers 5-0 and in-game 2 the final score was 8-1 in favor of the Drovers. With this series sweep the Drovers win streak is now at 11 games.

Game 1: Williams Dominates As Drovers Capture Series Win

In the first game of the day the Drovers would secure the series win after a 5-0 win over the Pioneers.

The Drovers sent Junior Colton Williams to the mound, who would throw 7 scoreless innings, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit to the Pioneers. He would also carry a no-hitter into the 7th inning but allowed a base hit with two outs remaining. Williams would allow just 1 walk and would finish his outing with 11 strike outs. With the win Williams improves to 11-0 on the season which ranks him first in the NAIA in wins on the season.

The bats for the Drovers picked up 8 hits on the afternoon led by Coleton Horner, who was 2-3 with a single and a double. Miguel Lorenzo went 1-2 with a 3 run home run (6). P.J. Garcia went 1-3 with a single. Alex Sanchez went 1-3 with a single. Elvin Alamo also went 1-3 with a single. Brock Henderson tallied 1 hit in 2 at-bats and would pick up a double for the Drovers. Daniel Lafarga went 1-2 with a single.

Game 2: Drovers Extend Winning Streak

The USAO Drovers came out and beat the Pioneers 8-1 to extend their winning streak to 11 games in a row.

The Drovers sent the left-handed Junior Jean Muntaner to the mound, as he would throw 5 strong innings for the Drovers and allow 1 run on 3 hits to the Pioneers. Muntaner would allow just 2 walks over his 5 innings of work and would sit down 5 via the strikeout. With the win Muntaner improves to 9-1 on the season and has a 1.91 ERA for the Drovers. In relief the Drovers called on the Senior Rudy Gonzalez. Gonzalez continue dominating the competition as he would throw 2 solid innings and not allow a hit or a run cross the plate. He would also finish out his day with 2 strikeouts.

The Drovers offense put together another good outing as they would combine for 8 hits on the afternoon. They were led by Alex Sanchez, as he went 2-4 with a single and a home run (9). Miguel Lorenzo, 2-4 with a single and a double. P.J. Garcia went 1-4 with a home run (4). Coleton Horner went 1-3 with a double. Elvin Alamo went 1-3 with a 3 RBI double. Cristian Laboy went 1-3 with a single.
