Baseball: Garza Offically Named Rams Head Coach

During the 2018 season, Assistant coach Bobby Garza was named the interim head coach of the Texas Wesleyan Rams. Garza was placed into the role, following the firing of former head coach Mike Jeffcoat. Garza had been the assistant coach for 4 years before he was named the interim head coach. Today the University Officially named Garza the Rams head coach.

During last season, Garza, in the interim roll, led the Rams to a 25-14 record. The Rams would finish their season at the conference tournament where they would be knocked out by the USAO Drovers in the semi-finals.

Garza is very experienced when it comes to coaching as he was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for 6 years at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. Before Northwood, Garza coached at Dallas Baptist and spent time at First Baptist Academy high school in Dallas, Texas.

Garza has already manufactured 2 players to the next level, in Kiki Menendez and Stephen Yancey. Menendez just recently signed a contract with the L.A. Angels, playing with the Angel Rookie affiliate the Orem Owlz. Yancey, who just recently signed with the Tampa Bay Rays, is playing with Princeton Rays who is the Rays rookie affiliate.

Texas Wesleyan Head Coach Bobby Garza said “My wife and I are very thankful to be named Head Baseball Coach at Texas Wesleyan University. We want to thank President Slabach and Ricky Dotson for this opportunity. Impacting individuals is something that my family has a strong desire to do. We are able to do that through the game of baseball. We hope to be able to help mold young men and win some ball games along the way.”
