Baseball: USAO’s Reyes Drafted By Detroit Tigers

Angel Reyes is a 20 year old right handed reliever, who comes in at 6-2 210lbs. Reyes was drafted in the 19th round and was selected as the 555 pick to the Detroit Tigers. Reyes could be a crucial piece later on for the Tigers, as this season he set around 93-95 mph and he would touch 97 mph. Along with his overpowering fastball, he has a slider that dominate hitter even at the next level. Reyes has a stout arsenal, to go along with the fastball and slider

Last season at the University Of Science And Arts, he would throw 44 innings and have a 3.07 ERA. Reyes finish his Junior season with 54 strikeouts and would allow just 11 walks. Reyes would be tied for second in saves with 11 on the season. Reyes would hold opponents to a .253 batting average, as he would allow just 11 extra base hits.

Reyes is just the 8th USAO player to play at the next level, as Jared Ellis, Brandon Brantley, Matt Mallory, Brian Vigo Suarez, Alsis Herrera, Jordan Watson, Yariel Gonzalez all achieved this goal.

Head Coach Mike Ross said “I’m very happy for him. His hard work this year paid off. I look forward to watching his professional career
