Baseball: Sooners Survive Elimination In Red River Showdown

In a big 12 tournament elimination game, the Oklahoma Sooners (#4) beat the Texas Longhorns (#1), 3-1. Coming into the tournament the Sooners pitching led the conference in strikeouts and tacked on 10 more today. The Sooners were again hit by the injury bug, as Steele Walker was joined by Kyler Murray, and Levi Prater, who had to leave todays game with injuries.

The Sooners offense put together 9 hits, as they were led by Thomas Hughes, who would go 2-3 with 2 singles. Blake Brewster went 1-2 with solo home run (2). Cade Harris went 1-2 with a single, and 3 walks on the afternoon. Brandon Zaragoza went 1-4 with a double. Kyler Murray would go 1-1 with a single. Domenic DeRenzo would put together a 1-4 day with a double, as he would come off the bench and replace the injured Murray. Cade Cavalli went 1-4 with a single. Brylie Ware would go 1-4 with a single.

The Sooners sent Nathan Wiles to the mound who would throw 4 inning, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Wiles would finish with 4 strikeouts, as he would throw 72 pitches on the night. The Sooners used 4 relief pitchers in this matchup, Levi Prater, Cade Cavalli, Braidyn Fink, and Austin Hansen. Prater would throw 1 inning, allowing 0 runs on 1 hits, and would later pick up the win to move to 3-3 on the season. After Prater threw his first inning, he would get hurt while throwing warm up pitches in the 6th inning, with what appeared to be a hip injury. Cavalli came in after the injury and would throw 2 scoreless innings and would not allow a hit. Fink would throw 0.1 innings, and would give up 0 runs on 0 hits, and would strikeout 1. Hansen would come in and slam the door, as he would throw 1.2 inning, and would allow 0 runs on 0 hits. Hansen would finish with 3 strikouts, and would collect the save (7).
