Baseball: Drovers Dominate Conference Opener

In the Sooner Athletic Conference opener, the USAO Drovers beat Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) Lions by the score of 26-2.

The offense for the Drovers started hot, and finished hot. They would score 12 runs right out of the gate, in the first inning. The Drovers would finish with 18 hits, and they would be led by Miguel Lorenzo as he would go 2-3 with a single and a homerun (1), P.J. Garcia 2-3 with 2 singles, Daniel Lafarga 2-3 with 2 doubles, Coleton Horner 2-2 with a single and a homerun (2), Kenniel Rivera 2-3 with a single and a double, Alex Sanchez 1-3 with a triple, Greg Barnette 1-2 with a homerun (1), Brandon Shumway 1-2 with a single, Sergio Mendez 1-1 with a single, Henry Rodriguez 1-3 with a single, Blake Tasos 1-1 with a single, Stevie Thompson 1-1 with a single, and Haddon Macintosh 1-1 with a double.

The Drovers got a good start from Francis Ventura, as he would throw 5 innings and allow 1 run on 3 hits. He would also have 5 strikeouts on the afternoon. The next pitcher for USAO was Mason Stasyszen, he would go 1 inning, and allow 1 unearned run on 0 hits. He would also finished 1 strikeout. The final pitcher for the Drovers would be Clay Teel, he would pitch 1 inning and allow 0 runs on 1 hit. He would fire a near perfect inning, striking out 3 Lions hitters.

The Drovers and the Lions will continue this series, on Saturday at 1 P.M. and 3 P.M.

Senior Kenniel Rivera said “At this moment we don’t have many games played but as a team we come ready to play from the beginning of the game till the end and right now we are playing great baseball don’t matter who we play We are aggesive defensively and offensively and that’s what help us score a lot of runs and win”

Senior Francis Ventura said “When you know it’s your last year to play always play every game like it’s your last game of the year. Also today everyone was focus on the game and we come out to play hard.”
