The Oklahoma Sooners come into this season, after going 11-2 last season, including a bowl game win over Auburn 35-19. The Sooners look to have the same results with new head coach Lincoln Riley, following the retirement of Bob Stoops.

The Sooners offense will be getting back Heisman trophy finalist Baker Mayfield. Mayfield finished with 3,965 yards passing and threw for 40 touchdowns. One question for the Oklahoma offense will be, who will be the number one wide receiver? Another question will be their running game now, with Perine and Mixon gone. A couple of options at the running back spot could be Sophomores Rodney Anderson and Abdul Adams. Some of the options at wide receiver will be, Senior Jeffery Mead and Junior tight end Mark Andrews. The Sooners also grabbed a transfer from Kentucky, who plays wide receiver, who could help Baker Mayfield out this season.

The Defense for the Sooners struggled early in the season last year. They were able to get things going toward the end of the year and they look to feed off the late season momentum. The Sooners are getting back Senior cornerback Jordan Thomas and Senior Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. Thomas and Okoronkwo will be big leaders of the Sooners defense throughout the whole season. The Sooners will need to excel at the pass rush. They finished with just 68 tackles for loss last year and in 2015 they had 90 tackles for loss. The Sooners look to improve on points given up per game.  They ranked 63rd while giving up an average of 28.8 points per game.

I have the Sooners finishing the season with a 10-2 mark. In Riley’s 1st year, I can see the Sooners experiencing some growing pains with a few tough tests with a next to impossible test in Columbus Ohio. Overall the Sooners will have a very respectable season. Riley will look to continue the great legacy of former coach Bob Stoops.
