The first quarter did not go as expected only combining for 3 points. Oklahoma was forced to punt on all 3 of the possessions only gaining 40 yards. The Cowboys had to punt on 3 out of 4 drives tacking a field goal from 19 yards out. Oklahoma State gained 122 yards and 66 from Justice Hill. The Cowboys dominated the field position battle in this quarter. The average starting position for the Cowboys was the 36 yard line and the Sooners at their own 15 yard line.

The second quarter was very different then the 1st. Both teams combined for 31 points the Sooners scoring 17 and the Cowboys adding 14. The Cowboys again controlled the position battle averaging a starting spot on their own 33 yard line. The Sooners averaged a starting spot of the 21 yard line. The Sooner slowly started to establish the passing game with Baker Mayfield throwing for 237 yards completing 8-13 with 2 touchdowns. Dede Westbrook was under a concussion protocol after a hit by Jordan Sterns. The 3rd quarter was dominated by the Sooners winning the points for the Oklahoma 17 Oklahoma State 3. The running game for the Sooners took off during this quarter. Samaje Perine had 22 carries for 145 yards and he added one touchdown. After star wide receiver Dede Westbrook had to leave the game, wide receiver Geno Lewis had 3 catches for 28 yards and a touchdown. Baker Mayfield keeps his Heisman hopes alive completing 12-18 adding 239 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mason Rudolph completed 7-17 throwing for 149 yards. The 4th quarter was slow going for both teams only 7 points combined. The Sooners had Joe Mixon take a 79 yard touchdown run with 9:35 remaining in this quarter. The Cowboys won the position battle in the 4th quarter with an average start at the 38 yard line and the Sooners with an average of 29.
